One of the decisions you’ll have to make when designing your new pool is what kind of finish you want. The finish is surface of the pool and can be constructed out of a variety of materials including plaster, quartzite, and stone aggregate. In this week’s blog, we’ll discuss the pros and cons of the pool finishes offered by Rhine Pools. All of these are viable options, but depending on your budget and your aesthetic preferences you may prefer one over the other.
Plaster is the most recognizable and commonly used pool finish. Made of a mixture of cement, water, and marble dust or silica sand, plaster is the most affordable pool finish and has a lifespan of between 5 to 7 years. Many plaster finished pools are white, but the plaster can also be dyed to affect different tints in the water. A darker plaster, for example, will make the pool look more like a natural feature, and give the water a strong reflective quality.
The next step up from plaster, quartzite finished pools are made of small pieces of quartz. Similar finishes are also made from marble and granite. The finish is polished down for a more lustrous appearance than plaster, and it is also more resistant to stains and chemicals such as chlorine. A quartzite finish should last on average between 8 and 10 years.
This finish from Pebble Technology uses a pebble aggregate for a truly unique, colorful and aesthetically pleasing pool finish. Pebble Tec uses larger stones for the finish while Pebble Fina uses small crushed aggregate and seashells for a beach-like finish. Pebble Sheen and BeadCrete are also available. Sheen offers a smooth finish made of fused pebbles and BeadCrete offers an all-glass bead finish. All Pebble Tec finish last from 10 to 15 years.
