4 Reasons to Light Your Pool

Swim all day and all night.

Everyone loves to jump in the pool on a nice sunny day, but what about when the sun goes down? With pool lighting, you can keep the fun going through the evening and night.

Unique ambiance.

Pool lighting gives your pool and backyard a unique visual aesthetic at night that lots of pool owners find very pleasing. You can use traditional white lighting of course, but lots of people choose colored lights to create a beautiful wash of color through the water. Colored lights offer a great aesthetic balance, because they can be understated and make your pool stand out at the same time.

Pool lighting provides addition safety for swimmers at night, which is especially important if you have young children.

Landscape Lighting

In addition to lighting in your pool, consider lighting for the area around your pool as well. Low voltage LED landscape is lighting is perfect for walkways, patios, walls, and steps. These are all things we like to design into every pool job we do.

What kind of light should I use?

The most popular kind of lighting for pools these days is LED lighting. LED stands for light emitting diode, and they’re different than your traditional incandescent light because there’s no filament in them. LEDs have actually been around for awhile, but they’ve really started to take off in the consumer market in the past few years, as technology has improved and prices have fallen.

There are several reasons LEDs are so popular for pool lighting. First, they last for a really long time. How long? Most LEDs average around 30,000 hours, which is 6 times as long as an incandescent light. Second, they can change colors and be programmed to operate at different light show settings, similar to the lights on a Christmas tree. And third, LEDs are very reliable, which means they require little maintenance. And since they last so long, you won’t have to buy a replacement bulb for a very long time.
