Which Pool Finish Should You Choose?

pool finish

Take your time to choose the perfect pool finish for you!

Whether you are in the process of resurfacing your pool or want to install a new pool in your backyard, you need to consider which material will construct the interior surface.  Choosing the perfect pool finish might be a difficult decision, but it doesn’t have to be.  There are several options to choose from, but the three popular choices are plaster, Diamond Brite, and Pebble Tec, which is the brand name for a material made from cement and pebble aggregates.  Discover the benefits of each pool finish so you can decide which material is best for your pool.

Plaster

The most well-known and affordable pool resurfacing material, plaster has been around since the 1960’s, making constant improvements over the years.  The pool finish material is a mixture of white cement and marble sand.  Although it is not as durable as other materials, plaster can last up ten years with good care and maintenance.  Plaster is easy to clean, but it is susceptible to harsh chemicals because of its porous nature.  It is crucial to have a balanced pool if you decide to have a plaster pool finish.

Diamond Brite

If you want a material that is highly durable and comfortable to walk on, then look no further than Diamond Brite.  A combination of quartz aggregate, cement and non-fading Diamond quartz, Diamond Brite is a long a lasting resurfacing material mainly due to the hardness of quartz.  The material can stand up to the harshest pool chemicals and is scratch resistant.  So whatever color you choose for your pool floor, it will never fade regardless of the amount of foot traffic in your pool.

Pebble Tec

Popular among homeowners over the past couple decades, Pebble Tec, is one of the highest quality surfacing products on the market because it is extremely durable and long-lasting.  Made out of large stones, Pebble Technology will make the pool floor look like a river bed.  Although it is a little rougher on your feet than plaster, the product will last 15-20 years with proper care and maintenance.  It is much easier to remove stains on a Pebble Tec floor than it is with plaster.  Pebble Tec comes in a variety of design styles so you can custom make your pool finish to fit your personal preference.
